After Macke 3
The title of my work is ‘In Praise of House & Garden, after August Macke, 1-9’ - what a mouthful for nine small paintings!
My inspiration is August Macke’s painting, entitled ‘House and Garden’, which he made in 1914 during a visit to Tunisia. He was inspired by the colour, light and the culture, all of which were so new to him.
I identified with his evident delight in the discovery of new colour, light, and shape.
